Cyprus became a member of the European Union on January 1st, 2004. Greek is the only official EU language of Cyprus.
The fact that the northern part of the island is not controlled by the Cypriot government and claims to be part of Turkey is ignored by the EU.
Cyprus joined the Euro on January 1st, 2008. Cyprus is not part of the Schengen area.
